Making The Brand: Buffalo Wild West
Ahhhh..smells like football season kids! And what says football more than over eating, drunkenness, and gambling? The answer is not much. And this is why I loved hearing the announcement that Buffalo Wild Wings has decided to explore in-house gambling in their restaurants. This comes on the heels of 2 major happenings:
- U.S. Supreme Court struck down a 1992 federal law that banned sports betting in states that didn’t already have a law on the books.
- Declining sales at B Dubs in 2017
Legal sports betting is still in its infancy across the country but in 2017, Vegas alone, brought in 4.8 billion in revenue…ya billion with a B. And that’s just legal betting in one state. Some estimates say upwards of 150 billion is illegally bet every year..yea that might be high but you get it..Major dollars are spent gambling yearly.
In restaurant revenue is way down and allowing sports betting restaurant will give fans another reason to get up and go. Butts in seats means dollars spent. So they’re not only make money off the gambling but they’re making money off those wings and beer too.
Now they’ll have some logistics issues, but as of now, 4 states have full legalized gambling (Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey & Mississippi), 4 more are close, and a hand full of others have introduced bills. And the play is going to be to partner with a wagering site like a Draft Kings.
Until next time, Get your Brand right :)
